The album Eternal Angel was aired on Audiosyncracy hosted by Jamey Osborne on KTEP (El Paso, Texas). Audiosyncracy is an innovative, one-hour program of unusual music, featuring new music from artists in the contemporary acoustic domain, though pegging the music into a specific term is difficult. Called "new age" by some, the music is vibrant and diverse, ranging from solo piano and guitar to exotic instrumentations, arrangements and styles from independent artists and labels from around the world.

About the show:

At Water's Edge peek into unexplored corners of ambient electronica to uncover beauty in unexpected places Saturdays from 9pm – 1am Pacific on http://www.stillstream.com . Accustomed to four-hour shifts in conventional radio, Rebekkah volunteered to do a four-hour show on Saturdays. Not content merely to spin tracks, the show quickly evolved into a blend of spoken word, music, interviews and live segments. The basic premise of the show is that music is everywhere, in everything: in the hum of a city, in the pulse of construction machinery or a heartbeat, in footsteps, in laughter, in breath, in the shuffling of an impatient audience… and, like John Cage’s “Four minutes and thirty-three seconds”, all you have to do is sit and listen.

The angel leaves his heavenly realm to seek answers to his immortality ("Eternal Angel") descending into Hell ("Descensus Averni") where dances in a frenzied dance with the demons and damned souls. His eyes can not stop reflecting his angelic origin ("A Heaven in your Eyes") so he escapes from the dark depths with the angel of death Azrael ("Azrael Tear"), with whom he accompanies to the world of souls where he will find the spirit of a dog named Dana ("Dana and the Field of Sunflowers"). Far from their habitat, loneliness and longing causes him a slow agony ("Die Sweet for an Angel"), which makes him wander adrift and land on the shores of Hell ("On the Shore of Hell"). There, Moribund, is rescued by a cute cherub ("Cherubim Dance") who takes him to Eden and, while he retrieves its splendor, is seduced by the devil dressed as a woman ("Labyrinth Seduction"). After overcoming the temptations of the devil and pass this test, the angel understands the gift of his inmortal nature ("The Gift") rebirthing again in his original realm ("The Eternal Ending

On the Shore of Hell").

Psichodreamics is an ambient project from Salva Moreno. The music is completely made with keyboards and computer. A few voices are added, but the music is mostly instrumental. The bandname, the album title and the cover image gave me the suspicion that this could be new age muzak. But my fear was unjustified, I find this music actually quite beautiful and certainly not superficial.

The title track is a nice orchestral piece, which floats around you. It is light, but touching. 'Descensus averni' is carried by some ritual percussion, engulfed by soft synthetic layers of sound, later adorned by sweet bells and some choral voices. It is a good thing that various songs, like 'Die sweet for an angel' have rhythmic elements, to ensure variety and holding your attention. Though this album promises to take you to both heaven and hell, I have the feeling that the sweet angelic side is more dominant. There is one track that I really don't like: 'Cherubin dance', with a synthetic guitar which reminds me of the wost elevator muzak.

Psichodreamics offers us angelic, moving compositions. Relaxing ethereal ambient music. Music for dreamers. After an hour though everything gets perhaps a little too lush and sweet. Or do I get tired of heaven too quickly?

Salva Moreno, alias Psicodreamics, is no newcomer in the business. “Eternal Angel” already is his fifth album; his first album, “Eamalas”, dates from 1990. Using ethnic percussion instruments as part of his aural design, Moreno creates music that is inspired by dreams and fantasies. Although “Azhdark Passion”, the successor to “Eternal Angel”, was released some time ago, all the same now a review of the latter album. The title track is a slow, orchestral piece that slightly reminds one of (the early) Jarre (except for the waffling lady with her echoing announcements). In “Descensus Averni” we see a fine build up of the music. It opens with a few spherical sounds, followed by some ethnic percussion sounds, and, after these, a rippling sequence (that sounds like a xylophone) that somewhat weakens the menacing character of the piece. Over thin orchestral tapestries, Moreno’s synthesizers generate many variants of choir sounds, after which the whole becomes a bit more forceful right up to the end. After again starting with vehement chords in “A Heaven In Your Eyes”, the cosmic sounds take you entirely into a dream. “Azrael Tear” has a very sweet beginning that is followed by synths that almost sound like singing voices, and which alternate with “brass band” sounds. For me, the heavily distorted voice could have been omitted, but the introduction of the percussion is nice. Sound carpets enhanced with, among other things, panpipe tones and some howling/barking dogs result in distinctive, yet restful and almost “Floydian”, atmospheres that are to some degree retained in “On The Shore Of Hell”. In the last part we hear more menacing sounds before the track fades out in a tenuous beauty. The little voices and the percussion return in “Die Sweet For An Angel”, and, again, the splendid music slightly reminds one of Jarre. In my opinion, Moreno’s narrations in Spanish add little to the pieces. Later on an almost popular medley of “orchestra”, choir and “guitar”, enriched with other sounds, is built up into a climax in “Cherubin Dance”, ultimately to be reduced using the same appealing theme. “Labyrinth Of Seduction” is dominated by slow percussion rhythms that are topped with sound tapestries and variations of sequences. It also contains a sound that is like the tapping on numerous bottles. Accompanied by a light orchestral background, the piano takes the lead part with a beautiful, but not too fierce, melody; it is one of my favorite tracks. The concluding piece, “Eternal Ending”, is very orchestral and, again, the many and various choir sounds remotely remind one of Vangelis. The bonus track, “Lycantrophe 2001”, is suited for the dance floor due to its dance rhythms and the distorted little voices. It is a bit out of character with the quieter pieces in the rest of the album. However, it clearly demonstrates that Moreno is a well-rounded musician. By the way, his well-rounded abilities extend to the design of the sleeves of his albums. I am very curious about his next album, which will be entitled “Theatre des Vampires”.

I did manage to listen to Eternal Angel in it's entirety. I have to say that I've never heard anything quite like it before. It's a very refreshing and original soundscape with an ethereal quality that really pulls the listener into the music and creates that short 'escape' from life we all desire from time to time. It's quite an accomplishment and I highly recommend it!

Recommended."

Eclipsing the solid work of his previous CD, The Garden, Salva Moreno (Psicodreamics) has once again released a concept album, albeit one more unified in musical motifs and spiritual themes than its predecessor. Eternal Angel tells the story (musically and, to a very limited degree, with some spoken word dialogue and scant lyrics) of an angel's fall from and return to grace during a journey of self-discovery that takes the angel, literally, to hell and back. As on his last album, one thing you can't say about Moreno is that he lacks ambition! As it did on The Garden, his talent easily keeps pace with that ambition.

However, where The Garden intermixed celestial new age music with rhythmic quasi-Enigma trippiness and even some neo-Berlin textures here and there, Eternal Angel seldom strays far from the Constance Demby/Vangelis arena as it showcases Moreno's flair for crafting neo-romantic spirituality-infused new age music, with some well-executed rhythmic touches too. The eleven tracks that comprise the album are suffused with drama and layered throughout with obvious emotion and passion (there is a bonus track at the end of the CD, "Lycanthrope 2001," that is not technically part of the concept of Eternal Angel, being a Euro-pop techno dance number - and a damn good one at that!). Also worth noting is an apparent increase in technical quality on the CD. While The Garden was solid in this regard, listening to Eternal Angel it's hard to believe this is an independent release. The mix, in particular, is exceedingly well-done. "Descensus Averni" with its pounding drum beats, bass choirs, swirling keyboards, and reverberating bells is amazing on headphones. The soundfield is wide yet instrumentation is well-realized and placed with precision. Engineering is likewise of the highest caliber. Moreno's (apparently large) arsenal of keyboards all sound great.

Obviously, if you're cynical or particularly anti-religious, you're going to have to disconnect some of those feelings in order to enjoy this album. Being a semi-agnostic myself, I still enjoyed Eternal Angel a lot just for the music itself. From those passionate and sensual rhythms in the aforementioned "Descensus Averni" to the celestial choirs, twinkling bells and classic spacemusic textures of the next track, "A Heaven in Your Eyes," to the Demby-esque choral work mixed with tribal percussion on "Azrael Tear" (blended with spooky vocoder spoken word vocals) and on to later tracks like the smoothly sensual "Labyrinth of Seduction" (another song with excellent tribal percussion work on a variety of instruments, layered under an assortment of synth washes), "The Gift" (featuring powerful digital piano and soprano women's choral samples) and "Eternal Ending" which is appropriately full of uplifting crescendos, Eternal Angel is a well-crafted recording both artistically and technically. The only track on the CD that I had a negative reaction to was "Cherubim Dance," owing to the use of electric guitar (real or sampled) to carry the main melody, something which strikes me as being out of place with the rest of the album's instrumentation.

Those who share the beliefs that are at the core of the CD (angels, devils, hell and heaven) will almost assuredly experience this fine album on a wholly different level than those (such as myself) who are here just for the music. However, even on a superficial level, Eternal Angel can be played and subsequently savored because Moreno is a talented musician. If you like ultra-dramatic new age music that weaves a spell both ethereal and sensual, this is a trip worth taking. Recommended.

In this album Psicodreamics takes the myths and universal beliefs about angels (both the heavenly and the fallen ones) as a guiding thread to build an impressive musical adventure, with a great melodic strength and a remarkable wealth in orchestrations. With a style flowing from Space, to Synth-Pop of romantic airs, to New Instrumental Music in its most symphonic side, "Eternal Angel" is an album that will not pass unnoticed. Powerful emotions seem to be amongst the creative means that have resulted in its release, and spring towards the listener in numerous passages.
Opdyke (Ambientrance)"A labor of love, obviously constructed with care, Eternal Angel soars with synth-powered grandeur of epic emotiveness"

Shimmering curtains and neosymphonics are lovely, glorified even, in opening /title track Eternal Angel, which revels in luxuriant sweeps of assorted faux instrumentation (occasionally tangled with words?). When Descensus Averni falls into a less-angelic mode, the drop is tangible; though even in these nether regions of chants, bells, tribal drums and sinuous synths, dark beauty beckons. Brassy rays beam through a cloudborne choir when Azrael Tear twinkles into existence... the effected whispers of a devil's tongue cut through the male voices and radiant chords. Gentle reedsounds, birdsong and pattering tones fill Dana and the Field of Sunflowers with the expected sweetness, while On The Shore of Hell (7:32) slips more subtly toward the anticipated Hellishness... somber harp strings open, though grey winds, wicked femme laughs and distorted voices begin to encroach, swallowed into a chasmic space of mist-shrouded musicality. Cherubim Dance throws in a few different moves, like adding electric guitar tunefulness to a gauzey electronic waltz. The swirling e-choruses of The Gift are further adorned with enticing piano wanderings. With kettledrums booming below, Eternal Ending (2:46) rises and spreads in synthetic splendor from which you can practically feel the warmth... not really the ending though, as bonus track Lycanthrope 2001 howls in with a surprising blast of dancefloor energy attacking its darktronic moods. A labor of love, obviously constructed with care, Eternal Angel soars with synth-powered grandeur of epic emotiveness. Some listeners may find Psicodreamics' palette overly-laden with new-age colors and styles though. Personally, it's all just too darned heavenly for my world! Still a B for such nice self-produced work
